Overview
The Medical Interpretation Course is a comprehensive, competency-based programme designed to equip bilingual and multilingual individuals with the professional skills required to accurately and ethically interpret in clinical, hospital, community health, and emergency care environments. The course integrates medical terminology, anatomy and physiology fundamentals, interpreting techniques, cultural competence, legal and ethical frameworks, and hands-on practical training to ensure safe, high-quality communication between healthcare providers and patients with limited English proficiency.
Structured to meet emerging 2026 international healthcare communication standards, the programme emphasises accuracy, confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries, while also developing the learner’s capacity to navigate sensitive medical conversations, high-stress clinical scenarios, and culturally complex patient interactions. Learners gain proficiency in consecutive interpreting, sight translation, note-taking, memory enhancement strategies, remote interpreting protocols (OPI and VRI), and documentation practices required in modern healthcare systems.
Learners who successfully complete all assessments—including written exams, simulated interpreting sessions, and practical evaluations—are awarded a Certificate in Medical Interpretation, enabling them to work as qualified healthcare interpreter.
